Language is a powerful thing. We use language to get the job done, to build relationships, to address concerns, and (sometimes) to unwittingly escalate emotional responses. This workshop will give you insight and tools to avoid unnecessarily escalating conversations.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify phrases that are mis-believed to be calming or empathetic
- Articulate the impact of stress on executive function
- Discover the 4 most likely responses when faced with potentially emotionally fraught conversations.
- Learn an easy to implement yet powerful preparatory process for emotionally elevated conversations
- Examine a framework to set and manage expectations
About Our Presenter: Carol Bowser
Carol Bowser, JD, is the founder and President of Conflict Management Strategies, Inc. She is mediator, trainer, facilitator, and coach who is an expert in the anatomy of workplace conflict. She holds conflict in high-esteem because she knows that when there is conflict, something important is happening - and it’s worth paying attention. Carol knows how to identify what creates conflict, what sustains it, and then how to resolve it in a lasting way. Despite being a mediator, Carol hates arguments…and despite that, she has the ability to support those who are sitting in the fire by bringing her particular lens to the intricate relations between facts and feelings so conflicts can be fully resolved.
